A Fivefold rise in the number of satellite navigation system
thefts has led to a warning to drivers.
According to figures released under the Freedom of Information
Act, 197 'sat navs' were stolen in 2006-07, compared to just 36 in
2005-06.
The massive increase has been attributed to the way thefts are
recorded, an increase in the number of motorists who own navigation
systems and a failure to follow anti-theft instructions.
Police are tackling the issue by encouraging drivers to do all
they can to prevent being a victim of the crime.
