A cannonball daredevil will get the Royal Bath & West Show off to a flying start this week. Tina Rowe takes a peek at all the attractions on offer

When you have kept crowds spellbound by the sight of a microlight pilot leading a skein of endangered geese on a mini- migration flight it must be hard to find anything to equal it.

But bosses at the Royal Bath & West Show are used to such challenges, and when the four-day show opens on Wednesday, daredevil human cannonball David Smith Junior, pictured, will ensure the day goes with a bang as he makes his British debut hurtling out of a 35ft, 10,000lb cannon at an astonishing 50mph.
