Gordon Brown waited 10 years for his "troublesome neighbour" to move out. He obviously picked the wrong Downing Street.

For in Downing Street, Chippenham, house prices were rocketing yesterday, everyone was smiling and - this will be a first for Gordon - the neighbours were all getting along.

If the new Prime Minister had to pay for his new London address, he would have to shell out pounds2.75 million.

That is pounds750,000 more than that Blair fellow next door would have had to pay back in 1997. With all his prudent financial acumen, Mr Brown from No.10 would easily know that is a rise in value of 37.5 per cent.

But for the residents of the lesser-known Downing Street, in this booming ...
