Gap years are a good way for young people to take time out from
their studies before they knuckle down to university life. Samanatha
Walker looks at how today's students can get the most out of their
global travels and help people in developing countries at the same
time
It's almost a pre-requisite these days for young people in the
West Country to take a gap year before university.
A 12-month break might not sit too comfortably with parents
worrying that their offspring will get so used to chilling out on
their travels, they might decide that higher education is not for
them.
But up to 200,000 Britons take a gap year every year, with 130,000
of them being school leavers.
