DRIVERS DRIVEN TO REDUCTION AUTO INSURANCE COSTS WILL DROP ON JULY 1; SOME TO GET REFUNDS, BUT ONLY BY REQUEST

Many Colorado drivers will be due a refund from their auto insurance carriers, thanks to a change in state law.

But they're going to have to ask for it.

For Colorado drivers whose auto insurance policies renew on July 1 or after, lower premiums based on changes in state law should show up automatically. But those who paid to renew before that day - say someone who paid a six-month premium in March with renewal in September - must get their policies rewritten to see a refund.

"Some people have the misperception that, on July 1, something magical's going to happen," said Joy Pickar, spokeswoman for State Farm in Colorado.
