Forrest Gump may not have been a real person, but Kathy Eaton is
following in his footsteps.
While the film character Forrest ran across America, Eaton, 59,
and her dog, Katy, are walking. Eaton hopes to end her journey on the
coast of New Jersey overlooking the Statue of Liberty on her 60th
birthday, Sept. 10.
So, what inspired this retired real estate broker and grandmother
from Silver City, N.M., to take on a 3,000-mile journey on foot?
"I wanted to challenge myself with something that was physically
and mentally challenging," she said Thursday afternoon near the
intersection of Cottage Grove and U.S. 30. "[It was] something I
didn't think I could do."
