At age 12, Chris Botti knew exactly what he wanted to be when he grew up.

"I was completely dedicated to making a living one day as a jazz trumpeter," Botti said during a phone conversation from his Los Angeles hotel room. "I knew I wanted to live in New York City and play jazz."
