Working today for a better yesterday:
It may be belaboring a point, but the White Sox should be laboring
on Labor Day. This sort of thing wouldn't happen if baseball had a
commissioner.
Field daze: The grounds crew received more applause Sunday--
before removing the tarp from the infield--than pitcher Shawn Estes
did at any time on Saturday. ... Nothing says bad offense" quite like
bringing the infield in in the top of the first inning (also the
second), as the Cubs did Sunday. Unless it's all those zeros they
amassed on the scoreboard.
Good fit: Thank goodness Darren Baker, 4-year-old son of Cubs
manager Dusty Baker, is small enough to fit under the dugout bench.
