Let's be careful with trout stream rules
I want to comment on the stream anti-degradation issue on behalf
of Beckwith Lumber Co. and at least a part of the forest industry in
West Virginia.
We support clean water and good trout streams. Unlike some large
landowners, we do not lease our lands to private hunting clubs.
Instead, we keep our property open for the public to hunt and fish.
The only requirement is a $10 permit that relieves us of certain
liabilities.
Our total acreage is about 65,000 acres.
We do not want Tier 2.5 designation on any streams on privately
owned lands.
The restrictions imposed by that designation amount to "taking"
private property rights away from the landowner ...
