REDLANDS - With a new year comes a new book for the One City, One Book program sponsored by the University of Redlands, A.K. Smiley Public Library and the Redlands Daily Facts.

The selection for 2008 is "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini.

One City, One Book was started last year to celebrate the University of Redlands' centennial. Other books that were under consideration for 2008 were "The Tortilla Curtain" by T.C. Boyle, "Pay it Forward" by Catherine Ryan Hyde, "Tuesdays With Morrie" by Mitch Albom, "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck, "Slaughterhouse Five" by Kurt Vonnegut, "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel, "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury and "To Kill a Mockingbird" by
