Happy birthday, Klaudia; She was expected soon -- 'but not that soon'

Baby Klaudia Wiktoria Prokop arrived 12 seconds after midnight on New Year's Day -- apparently the first child born in a Chicago area hospital in 2008.

She weighed 6 pounds 1 ounce and was 19 inches long.

At 7 p.m. New Year's Eve, her mom, Renata Cikowska, rushed to the St. Mary Campus of Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, 2233 W. Division.

"I'm doing great," the mom said New Year's morning. It's the second child for Cikowska, 23, and her husband, Daniel Prokop, 26. Their son, Kristian, is 2.

"We'd been to the doctor's office at noon," Prokop said. "He said the baby was coming soon."

"But not that soon," Cikowska said with a laugh.
