With the second half of the season rapidly approaching, Newton
Abbot have taken an early lead in Division 1 of the Torbay Chess
League with two fine wins over South Hams and St Marychurch.
Teignmouth are only a point behind having been held to a draw by
St Marychurch.
Return fixtures in the next few weeks, however, could see a
complete change as Newton Abbot have to play Teignmouth twice; and
South Hams, with all their top players available, could spring a
surprise on the other teams.
Champions St Marychurch are certainly not out of the hunt and it
will be interesting to see the league table in a month's time.
In Division 2, only two points separate the top six teams. St
