Article: Distressed Investing Seen as Top 2008 Performer

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Investing in distressed securities is likely to be a top-performing strategy in 2008, a survey of hedge fund managers released on Wednesday [Jan. 2] found.

The survey of 41 hedge fund executives managing some $227 billion found that over 20% believe that distressed investing will top the league tables for the next 12 months.

By contrast, only 10% believed that emerging markets would remain the top-performing strategy that it was in 2007. Emerging market strategies generated returns of 22.5% in the 11 months to December, with Asian investment - mainly China - topping the charts at 33.4%, according to fund-tracker Hedge Fund Research.
