John McMullan (88) was making his breakfast when the roof and top
storey of his home in Clady Road were blown off.
Two neighbouring houses were also damaged.
A gas cooker is now being examined by experts.
The 88-year-old Portglenone man was taken to Antrim Area hospital
for treatment, but amazingly he suffered only minor cuts and burns.
Fire Service Ballymena station commander Archie McKay said debris
from the explosion was found up to 50 yards away and Mr McMullan's
bed was found in a neighbouring field.
"I can't get over how he survived. It is incredible, he is one
heck of a lucky man," Mr McKay said.
