Article: $27 million verdict for firefighter's family is Missouri's largest for 2007

Lawyers for a family left without a husband and father persuaded a jury to blame the maker of safety equipment the St. Louis firefighter was wearing when he died. The case resulted in a $27 million verdict, apparently Missouri's largest in 2007.

The St. Louis Fire Department continues to use the equipment at issue. But a spokeswoman for the department says it largely has been rebuilt. Plus, the city is preparing to buy new equipment.
