The state's highest court shut down Centene Corp.'s plans this
year to use eminent domain to obtain land for a gleaming office and
retail tower in Clayton.
That setback did not stop Centene from grabbing $78 million in
tax incentives from St. Louis and announcing in September that the
company's new headquarters would be built on a portion of Ballpark
Village, adjacent to Busch Stadium.
In a September press release announcing plans for the 27-story
skyscraper, there was no mention of eminent domain or several
Clayton property owners who refused to back down and won the support
of the Missouri Supreme Court.
