Article: Last phase of Hood River street revitalization begins

For more than a decade, the city of Hood River has been revitalizing its downtown streets, working piecemeal to improve sewers, sidewalks and aesthetic elements of the historic small town.

On Jan. 8, the city will hold a mandatory pre-bid conference for the town's latest street-work project, with final sealed bids due Jan. 15. The work will take place along Oak Street, Hood River's historic main drag, from Third to Fifth streets.

"It was a general idea to revitalize that central part (of town) because it is a comprising element of the historic part of downtown," said Wes Wegner, design engineer for the project. Hood River has a thriving tourism industry during the summer.
