If the ballots cast by voting members of the Baseball Writers
Association of America from the Journal Sentinel are any indication,
today could be a memorable day for Rich "Goose" Gossage.
Four of the five voting members from the Journal Sentinel
included Gossage on the ballots they cast for the Baseball Hall of
Fame. The results of the 2008 election will be announced today, with
75% of the votes cast required for entrance to Cooperstown.
Gossage, an intimidating late-inning reliever who compiled 310
saves during his 22-year career, came close to election last year
with 71.2% of the votes cast, leaving him 21 votes shy on his eighth
