Article: Rell picks prosecutor to head state police; Nominates Danaher to take over as public safety commissioner

An assistant U.S. attorney with experience in major Connecticut corruption cases is Gov. M. Jodi Rell's choice to take over as head of the troubled state Department of Public Safety.

Rell announced Monday that she will nominate John A. Danaher III of West Hartford to become the next public safety commissioner, citing Danaher's record as "an experienced and able federal prosecutor."

Danaher, 56, will succeed Leonard C. Boyle, another former assistant U.S. prosecutor, who is stepping down after a rough 2 1/2 years as head of the agency.
