Police Friday evening arrested the owner of what they believe was
an illegal pit bull-breeding operation on Route 80 and charged him
with 37 counts of cruelty to animals.
Gonzalo Montesdeoca, 42, of 334 Foxon Road, also was charged with
37 counts of failure to vaccinate and 28 counts of failure to
license a dog, Lt. Jay Falcioni said.
There are fewer counts of the failure-to-license charge because
state law requires dog owners to license their pets only after they
are 8 months old, he said.
Police took Montesdeoca into custody without incident Friday
evening, Falcioni said.
He was released after posting $100,000 bail and is scheduled to
appear Feb. 21 at Superior Court in New Haven.
