Exeter College this week rolled out the red carpet to pay tribute
to exceptional students who have achieved great things - by sheer
hard work or by overcoming barriers, including language and
disability
An African chieftain's daughter, who hopes to carry on her
mother's pioneering human rights work, is just one of Exeter's
outstanding students honoured at a city award ceremony.
Refugee Caroline Rushingwa fled to Exeter four years ago from the
Democratic Republic of Congo, determined to complete her education
despite speaking no English.
Since then she has completed the challenging International
Baccalaureate course at Exeter College and learned seven languages.
