Hopes of a happy New Year are growing for 40 staff fighting to
save their jobs at Torbay Hospital.
The future of the sterile services unit, which decontaminates all
surgical instrument kits for Torbay's hospitals, GPs and dentists,
has been threatened since Torbay Hospital joined a consortium of
four hospitals across the South West to investigate a proposal to
move the service to regional super centres in Taunton and Dorset.
Now unions say a bid by Torbay Hospital's own staff has a 'real
possibility' of keeping the service in-house and beating preferred
bidder Decon Sciences. Decon is offering to bus Torbay Hospital
staff - mainly part-timers who work shifts to fit in with young
families - ...
