Article: San Ramon's coffers full

SAN RAMON -- Though the new year could prove financially rocky for many California cities, San Ramon will weather the storm with a hefty savings account, Mayor H. Abram Wilson said Tuesday.

The city has a $36 million reserve fund set aside for a rainy day, Wilson told the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday during his annual State of the City address. Downpours could come in the form of rising costs, including gas prices, and major funding cutbacks from the state, which is facing a $14 billion deficit, he said.

A reserve fund also would be needed if some unforeseen regional disaster, such as a fire or earthquake, was to befall the city, Wilson said.
