Article: MDI Hospital buys Bar Harbor motel Building will be used for offices, training

BAR HARBOR - Health care workers, rather than tourists, will be the new occupants of a Main Street building now that it has changed owners.

Mount Desert Island Hospital announced this week it has purchased the nearby Maine Street Motel, a long, brown building with exterior- access guest rooms on its two floors. The hospital hopes to renovate the building and to use it for a variety of hospital purposes, including administration and a training lab, the hospital indicated in a prepared statement.

According to MDI Hospital spokesman Jeff Nichols, increased demand for the hospital's services led to a 69 percent rise in net revenue between 2003 and 2007, from nearly $24 million to more than $40 ...
