Open up the CD jacket on the latest offering from Mary J. Blige
and you won't just see a sexy (yet modest) picture of Mary J. Blige,
but you'll also see an ALL CAPS shout-out to "my Lord and Savior
JESUS CHRIST." The irony here is this is a secular artist who seems
to be genuine and who we know has had a sometimes ugly past. As far
as content goes, Blige's "Growing Pains" is the best album of 2007.
The question is: Will radio and those from the ages of 18-27 care?
While most youngsters, girls in particular are busy being
"Supermanned" by the likes of Soldier Boy, Blige is screaming: Be
yourself. Be a "grown woman." Be sexy, but classy, and yes -- irony
