Free range chickens across South Devon are selling out quickly in
the wake of a TV blitz on mass-produced birds.
Butchers and farm shop retailers are reporting an unseasonal
upturn in trade as shoppers switch from their usual orders to bag
the more expensive but tastier option.
Sue Slade, who runs Bulleigh Elms Farm between Compton and
Marldon, ran out of her free range chickens on Saturday, together
with most of her rivals.
"They were just flying out of the fridge. You could say they are
going like hot cakes at the moment," said Sue, who added: "We also
ran of out free range eggs for the first time in ages. It's all
thanks to Jamie Oliver."
