Article: Mom seeks ban on peanut butter in schools

Whether the schools will stop serving peanut butter sandwiches is in the hands of the Board of Education.

Lisa Searles, whose 6-year-old son suffers from a life- threatening peanut allergy, pleaded her case before the school board's policy committee this week, urging that prepackaged peanut butter sandwiches be banned. Searles would also like to see an all- out ban on peanut butter in the schools, for safety's sake.

The committee took no action on the requests, and instead referred them to the full school board for a decision. The board meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Seymour Middle School.
