NEW YORK - The first time Colorado Springs native Rich "Goose"
Gossage took the field at Yankee Stadium in a New York uniform, he
couldn't control his emotions.
It was April 13, 1978. The New York Yankees were playing the
Chicago White Sox in their home opener, and Gossage, winless in his
first two appearances, ran out of the dugout after his name was
announced.
"I brought the house down," Gossage said of the thunderous boos
he received from more than 44,000 fans in attendance. "I had tears
in my eyes."
By the time the 1978 season was over, Gossage was an All-Star and
the Yankees were World Series champions. By the time Gossage
