BLOOMINGTON - The number of McLean County jail inmates has
dropped since a record high on Saturday, and county officials hope
added beds and program changes will prevent the need for a physical
expansion of the facility.
"As far as bricks and mortar, that'll obviously be the last
option we explore," said State's Attorney Bill Yoder.
The county had 294 people in custody Saturday - with 61 housed in
four other Illinois counties. The number of inmates was down to 275
Tuesday, with 58 incarcerated outside the county, said Sheriff Mike
Emery. The jail was built to hold about 205 inmates, but more beds
have been added over the years to handle additional prisoners.
