Article: Stormwater tax credit passes with 6-1 vote in County Council

The county will offer up to a $10,000 tax credit for people who try to reduce stormwater pollution on their property, but other solutions to the billion-dollar problem have yet to emerge from months of political debate.

The tax credit, to be administered over five years, passed the County Council last week. However, politicians and environmental and community leaders continue to clash over how to raise money to combat the $1 billion backlog of stream and river damage caused by uncontrolled stormwater, which brings sediment and toxic levels of nutrients into the county's already polluted waterways.
