The congregation of the largest church in the Pittsburgh
Presbytery voted overwhelmingly Sunday to split with the national
church and join a smaller, more conservative Presbyterian
denomination.
Members of Memorial Park Presbyterian Church in McCandless voted
664-25 to sever ties with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
"The congregation is very unified and enthusiastic about the
mission that's set before us," said the Rev. D. Dean Weaver, senior
pastor of Memorial Park.
The results were announced during a service last night, at which
time the McCandless church officially became part of the Michigan-
based Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Weaver said. Memorial Park
has 1,675 members.
