EUROSTAR carried a record number of passengers between Britain
and mainland Europe in 2007 and saw its ticket sales surge, writes
Martin Flanagan.
The company said its passenger numbers breached the eight million
barrier for the first time as it carried 8.26 million passengers
last year - up 5.1 per cent on the previous 12 months.
Eurostar said the 2007 rugby World Cup in France boosted traffic
and that the recent launch of new high-speed train services from
London's renovated St Pancras International station had also led to
an increase in sales.
Richard Brown, the company's chief executive, said: "We expect to
see this growth continue throughout 2008." Ticket sales rose 15.5 ...
