SIR RICHARD BRANSON'S former Virgin Megastore business chain
turned in an "excellent" performance over the crucial Christmas
period despite a fall in music sales, its boss said.
Simon Douglas, who led the buy-out of the business, now renamed
Zavvi, said the entertainment retailer bagged a 10.2 per cent
increase in like-for-like sales for the four weeks to January
coupled with a two per cent lift in margins.
Helping drive the performance were soaring sales - up 63 per cent
- of games for consoles such as Nintendo's Wii and DS.

from certain quarters, our trading performance over Christmas is
