A restaurant in the only hotel on a virtually car-free island
some 28 miles off the Cornish mainland has won a Michelin star. Tean
on St Martin's island is the first restaurant on the Isles of Scilly
to be awarded the culinary accolade.
Michelin guide editor Derek Bulmer travelled by road, helicopter
and boat for his inspection.
Tean's menu includes starters of locally sourced Cornish mackerel
and Bodmin venison, with Scillonian sea bass and St Just beef among
its main courses.
The restaurant is in the St Martin's on the Isle hotel which
opened in 1989 after getting permission from the Prince of Wales.
All Scilly Isles are part of Prince Charles' Duchy of Cornwall
estate.
