Article: Donors help WTVP closegap

PEORIA - Peoria's critically ill WTVP is still on life support, but the station's prognosis has been upgraded.

Thanks to "a couple of major donors," the $2 million needed to save the PBS affiliate from certain death has now been reduced to one-fourth that sum.

"For the first time in a long while, (there's) some real reason for optimism," Chet Tomczyk, WTVP's president and CEO, said Thursday.

But $500,000 is still $500,000, he added.

Right now, Tomczyk said the station can continue to remain on the air with its remaining cash reserve through the end of February.

"After that, there will be nothing left. That's it. So it's really important right now to resolve the remaining $500,000 debt."
