OAKLAND -- When Tim Racer and Donna Reynolds heard about the
arrest of Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Michael Vick for running
a fighting dog operation, they realized one thing: Those dogs needed
to be evaluated and saved, if possible.
In the end, they saved 48 of the 50 dogs, and 13 of them came
back to Oakland in foster care.
Five of the dogs, about ready for adoption, greeted the media
Friday at the Oakland Animal Services Shelter, 1101 29th Ave.
Oakland Raider Jarrod Cooper was also there to discuss the
importance of the Vick case.
Cooper volunteers almost daily at the shelter, where pit bulls
make up about half the animals that arrive there, and two-thirds of
those euthanized, ...
