Article: Fire slows Brown Line commute Delays will occur north of Belmont, but only during rush hour

Riders on the CTA's Brown Line, the fastest-growing line in the system, will face delays for the next two weeks -- starting today -- while repairs are made to a substation that was damaged by a weekend fire.

To be safe, riders should allow an extra 15 minutes, Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman Noelle Gaffney said Sunday.

"Trains will be less frequent and may seem a little more crowded," she said.

Only half as many Brown Line trains will operate because power will be limited from the substation, at 4650 N. Lincoln, where a blaze struck about 2 a.m. Saturday. Cause of the fire was unknown.

The Brown Line carries 66,000 riders each weekday, with 19 stations from Kimball south to the Loop.
