Reginald Mayo, superintendent of New Haven schools, writes a
letter criticizing the Register for mischaracterizing the way New
Haven reports its graduation rate. It seems that whenever Mayo or
the mayor, John DeStefano Jr., decide to write to the newspaper
about New Haven's public schools, they either defend their
stewardship against legitimate criticism or exaggerate the positive
aspects of the district's performance.
In his last letter, Mayo goes to some length to defend New
