Article: Revised school budget plan shows cuts

Scituate

A revised Scituate school budget for 2008-09 shows cuts at every grade level and in most departments.

But Superintendent Mark Mason said the proposed budget would allow the schools to maintain staffing as well as all services and initiatives put in place after last year's tax-limit override.

Mason presented the revised budget to school committee members Tuesday after whittling it down by $100,000.

On Jan. 12, committee members said Mason's first proposal, which called for a 4.7 percent increase, was too high in light of the sharp decrease in funding expected from the town.
