About one-third of Maryland kindergartners and third-graders had
untreated cavities in recent years, according to a newly released
dental evaluation of the state's public school children.
The report also found that less than 30 percent of the children
received dental sealants to guard against tooth decay. About 2,300
children, considered a representative sampling, were examined for
the report.
"This report is another stark reminder that access to dental care
for Maryland's children must be improved," said John M. Colmers,
secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
