Further tributes have been paid to the former treasurer of Barton
Town Cricket Club, Roy Atkinson.
As reported yesterday, Mr Atkinson (67) died last week at Castle
Hill Hospital.
"Cricket was his life, certainly after he retired," said Barton
Town CC's president, Denis Lawson.
The first time he met Mr Atkinson was when he taught at Barton
Grammar School and Mr Atkinson was a young pupil aged about 13 or 14
years.
"I didn't take him for classes, but took him for games and he was
very, very keen," recalled Mr Lawson.
"He turned out to be a very useful cricketer, a bowler who could
also handle the bat."
Serving as club treasurer from 1967 until ill-health made him
