TUCSON, Ariz. -- Aaron Rowand's turnaround has nothing to do with vanity, although it just happened to be initiated while he was admiring his Class A baseball card.

When a downtrodden Rowand opened a piece of fan mail early last season, in the midst of the worst funk of his baseball career, out of the envelope leaped the card and the answer to all his hitting problems.

The guy in the picture certainly was Rowand, but the ballplayer looked nothing like the one who was about to be demoted to Class AAA Charlotte.

Rowand was in his hitting stance on the front of the card, and the Jeff Bagwell-like squatty stance he employed, with his hands cocked below shoulder height, was nothing like the one ...
