Cudahy -- The heart of bowling still beats at Motion Plus Lanes,
where beer flows, pins fall and competitors jam 12 of 16 lanes for
the Friday night leagues.
The cozy, smoky joint is a tenpin throwback, a mom-and-pop
operation in a corporate sporting world. Carey and Jeanne Catania
own it and clearly love it, an 84-year-old bowling house that has
the feel of a club basement.
"I just didn't want to see bowling die," Carey Catania says,
explaining why he and his wife purchased the place in 2006.
Bowling remains very much alive because of gritty owners such as
the Catanias and the regulars who show up for league play. But the
