Article: 30 percent of kids have untreated dental disease

More than 30 percent of Maryland children suffered from an untreated dental disease, according to a new study from the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The results were part of the department's "Survey of the Oral Health of Maryland Children" in the 2005-06 school year. The report is the third in a series to examine the dental health of students in kindergarten and third grade. The first report was conducted in the 1995-96 school year, followed by another in 2000-01.

About 2,300 students from 35 public schools - including some in Anne Arundel County - participated in the survey.
