Chadian army, rebel forces clash in N'Djamena

YAOUNDE, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Chadian army and heavily armed elements from an alliance of three major rebel groups hostile to the regime of President Idriss Deby were involved in heavy combat across the Chadian capital Saturday morning, according to information reaching here.

The clashes began shortly after around 0800 (0700 GMT) a few kilometers north of the capital. Some heavy weapons, first sporadically and then more and more intense and regular, were heard from the center of N'Djamena.
