Alan Lowry never will forget the last words spoken to him by his
youngest daughter, Joanna. I can't spend the rest of my
life in bed," Joanna said.
Later that day, on Alan's 54th birthday, 20-year-old Joanna
Lindsey Lowry took a knife and ended her life.
Her suicide a year ago left questions that linger to this day, but
there is speculation the stress of being a star player on a losing
team contributed to Joanna's depression.
Alan had dropped Joanna off for work as a volunteer March 21,
2003, at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton. Joanna had
attempted suicide one month earlier when she drank a mixture of
orange juice and rubbing alcohol in her bedroom in Glen Ellyn.
