Scientists identify "tipping points" of global warming process

LONDON, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Scientists have identified nine elements in which the Earth could be tipped into a potentially dangerous state that could last for many centuries if global average temperatures continue to rise, The Independent newspaper reported Tuesday.

The nine elements identified range from the melting of polar ice sheets to the collapse of the Indian and West African monsoons,and the "tipping points" for all nine scenarios could occur withinthe next 100 years, according to the report.
