Article: Card fraud hits one in five of city's residents

LEEDS has become one of the top 10 worst cities for credit and debit card fraud.

The city is ranked eighth position in the UK's top 10 card fraud hotspots, with almost a fifth of Leeds residents having been a victim of card fraud.

Nearly one in five of those questioned for a survey have had their cards cloned from ATMs and Chip and PIN machines.

Fraud is most common over the Internet where over 40 per cent fell prey to criminals, with Sheffield being the worst regional hotspot for this.

Although card fraudsters are relatively indiscriminate, the research showed credit and debit card theft particularly targeted at women and the elderly.
