Article: Red Lobster: Good catch, kitsch

BLOOMINGTON - Red Lobster reminds me of one of those places you find in a tourist district like Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.

The decor in such places is an overdone push to remind you that you are near a body of water (as if the sight of water wasn't enough). But none of the customers is dressed in the sleek, cool- city-person attire, because none of them is from the cool city.

Nonetheless, the food generally is good.

Having such a place in town, even a chain off Veterans Parkway has, for me, an endearing quality.

Red Lobster gradually is making its restaurants look more upscale and less kitschy, and a new spot is planned for the Shoppes at College Hills.
