Article: Joseph Vrdolyak, 80, East Side insurance agent Marine served in South Pacific during World War II

It was easy to find Joseph Vrdolyak's home on the East Side on Sundays. Just follow the crowd and the scent of roasting lamb.

"He loved to entertain," said Karen Keane, one of his five daughters. "He'd have huge parties in our yard" with a whole lamb roasting on a spit above coals set in a metal grill on the ground.

All the neighborhood would be invited.

Sunday was Mr. Vrdolyak's one day off. Six days a week he sold insurance -- until he was 70. Then he retired, and to keep busy he began a second career in real estate. He kept that up until a year ago when his doctor ordered him to stop driving.

Mr. Vrdolyak died Friday at his Lansing home. He was 80.
